Princeton – Presidents’ Day 2019

After our quick getaway to West Point last year, we decided to spend one night (free Marriott stay) in Princeton with the kids. It was a quick trip, but a nice area to spend a day or two in.

Sunday

Washington’s Crossing – Given that it was Presidents’ Day, the Washington’s Crossing State Park (the Pennsylvania side rather than the New Jersey side) had an event to celebrate Washington’s Birthday! This was a really fun event with plenty of period appropriate activities, including cannon shooting demonstrations across the river, costumes, candle making, calligraphy, and a bunch of other things the kids enjoyed.

Grounds for Sculpture – This outdoor sculpture garden was really nice with a variety of sculptures and gardens. Some of the memorable pieces was a life size replication of “Van Gogh’s Bedroom” by Seward Johnson and some other sculptures we had fun climbing on.

Ice Cream/Swimming – Arriving in Princeton, we grabbed some ice cream from The Bent Spoon. When we checked into the hotel, we realized there was an indoor pool, so Sam ran to Walmart to buy some bathing suits for the kids and they swam for an hour before bedtime.

Monday

Princeton University – Before heading back to Brooklyn, we spent the morning and early afternoon walking around the Princeton campus. We first stopped at the Cotsen Children’s Library. This library had a nice whimsical feel with fairy tale like play areas for the kids, and plenty of nooks to grab a book and read. They also had a puppet theater for the kids to put on a show and explore their imagination. Next, we stopped at Guyot Hall which houses a few full dinosaur skeleton fossils. Lastly, we stopped at the Princeton Art Museum before heading home.
